Thread: [12.04] Second monitor cannot be detected

i checked forums, , while appears common problem, mine has...a twist.

short of summary can make it:

had 10.04 ati catalyst control center , worked great (or great ccc able work)

did wipe-and-install 12.04.

during installation process (booting os live cd), both monitors worked fine, set "real" dual-monitor setup, different content on each screen.

however, i'm in actual install, can't detect secondary monitor.

i've tried installing both nvidia drivers (recommended , updated), i've tried moving xorg.conf out of way , letting os rebuild it, , i've tried buying resident guru tacos until fixed it. none of worked.

other tips?

edit:
code:
maniacdan@maniacdan-laptop:~$ lspci | grep vga 01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation gt218 [nvs 3100m] (rev a2)
i've tried re-running nvidia-xconfig , produced:
code:
section "monitor" identifier "monitor0" vendorname "unknown" modelname "unknown" horizsync 28.0 - 33.0 vertrefresh 43.0 - 72.0 option "dpms" endsection section "device" identifier "device0" driver "nvidia" vendorname "nvidia corporation" endsection section "screen" identifier "screen0" device "device0" monitor "monitor0" defaultdepth 24 subsection "display" depth 24 endsubsection endsection

i had uninstall , reinstall standard nvidia control panel app, reboot, worked.
