Thread: Screen is "wiped" black after login

running 12.04, got done installing in dual boot configuration windows 7. i'm brand new linux , cannot overemphasize how profoundly don't know i'm doing when comes os.

boot laptop, boot ubuntu, , i'm taken login screen. right after installed ubuntu. @ point can see status bar (time, settings cog icon, etc.) , option guest session, etc. everything's good. input password , log in.

after screen "wiped" black; wallpaper disappears top bottom. if right click context menu comes , able select different wallpaper doing this, screen remains black.

first time happened there compiz crashing , terminal popped before because had opted encrypt home folder , going given passkey. couldn't input text terminal, though.

second time tried booting past login screen same thing happened, , terminal popped , blocked text of error message.

shouldn't have, booted recovery mode third time , selected fsck-check file systems. didn't help, though. considered trying dpkg thought better of it.

windows 7 runs perfectly, it's ubuntu issues.

should do? in advance.

what hardware specs? have problem beginning or did work directly after installation?
