hello, when launch firestarter error:
firestarter-warning **: log file not found or access denied.
firewall log monitoring disabled.
followed instructions:

editing (with "root" account) file /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf
from
#*.=info;*.=notice;*.=warn;\
# auth,authpriv.none;\
# cron,daemon.none;\

auth,authpriv.none;\
cron,daemon.none;\
mail,news.none -/var/log/messages
restarted rsyslog , rebooted same message...
can me?
yes dont use firestarter, out of date , buggy package.
iptables built in firewall in linux , users use ufw or gufw manage it.
see here dangertux firewall guide in ubuntu
if decide go down route remove firestarter conflicts.
