Thread: Help with 12.04 interface/unity

i'm testing 12.04 live cd see how (coming 10.04).

have couple questions though:
1. there way browse say, games installed on system?
2. why there no clickable scrollbar in dash home? every time click on tiny vertical line tells how far down am, dash goes away.
3. if unity based off compiz, how come when search compiz there's nothing comes up? shouldn't ccsm installed default?
4. there way put old 'show desktop' button somewhere out of way?
5. change amount of visual effects? in old 'appearance' menu in 10.04 can choose if want 'none', 'normal', 'extra', or 'custom'.
6. can add smaller panel on right? have miscellaneous scripts various small things run latest podcast downloaded folder etc. don't use them enough pin them main dock thing.
7. way see open windows mac's tiling thing?

can see how nice might these annoying widescreen laptops , saving pixels. , speeding work. sorta miss old minimize goes bottom panel (gnome 2); feel bit faster alt-tabbing around or clicking on launcher -> choose.

yes. open dash clicking ubuntu icon. click second icon @ bottom - 1 looks little ruler/pencil/pen. select 'installed,' finally, on top right, select 'filter results,' , in column on right, click 'games.'

2. why there no clickable scrollbar in dash home? every time click on tiny vertical line tells how far down am, dash goes away.
i don't know either, i've tested on system , experienced same thing. instead of using clickable scroller, scroll a) mouse roller b) trackpoint , middle mouse button or c) 'edge' of touchpad. might need enable either edge scrolling or 2 finger scrolling in system settings make work.

i'm not sure, guess maybe compiz working in background without giving settings interface. ccsm advanced tool - many people don't miss or wouldn't use it. can install on command line with:

code:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
4. there way put old 'show desktop' button somewhere out of way?
i don't know.

5. change amount of visual effects? in old 'appearance' menu in 10.04 can choose if want 'none', 'normal', 'extra', or 'custom'.
i'm not sure, if want desktop without effects, can select 'unity2d' on login screen , try that.

6. can add smaller panel on right? have miscellaneous scripts various small things run latest podcast downloaded folder etc. don't use them enough pin them main dock thing.
i don't think so, @ least, not unity. there other desktop environments can use might give level of customization. might 1 called 'cinnamon' might find more configurable.

7. way see open windows mac's tiling thing?
yes. try super+s (your windows key). can configure on 'desktop' section of ccsm. called 'expo' feature.

luck!
