Thread: Raid started checking automaticatlly in fresh install

hi all,

hope can here. after having working ubuntu desktop 11.04 running raid6 12x2tb drives upgraded 11.10 12.04 , screwed everything. tried many things recover raid screwed more decided scrap lot , start fresh. wish left alone start with.

since had prob 12.04 did fresh install of 11.10. wiped raid off drives installed mdadm created raid , waited build completed. did have boot issues explained in here fixed there solution.

normal fresh install no data. started copying on data backup , left on night. come in next morning , notice raid in action of checking(not degraded) in disk utility. checked cat /proc/mdstat , showed checking , had 25000+ (however has dropped under 1000 again) minutes complete. along time guess still copying data across.

question is:
1: how did raid automatically start check process? there default schedule setting check raids on new installs can turn off?
2: can stop checking mid way through , how? (as still copying , has slowed down)

thanks

ps. if in wrong spot can mod move correct location thanks.

seems there auto check of raid setup first sunday of month. yesterday. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=408461&page=4

have commented out line in script. dont know if work. safely stop check?

ideas anyone?
