salutations!

i'm trying joystick working ubuntu. started follow tutorial , pasted command terminal. 'sudo chmod 666 /dev/srj0' got permission denied error. that's first command entered upon embarking on getting joystick work. didn't else. went chrome seek tutorial once again when i'd discovered chrome had closed. odd didn't close myself? clicked reopen nothing, save flashing backlight, happened. tried again open chrome nothing happened.

unity dock on left side goes away. it's set autohide suppose that. try , shoving cursor left nothing. spider sense tingling go top right hand corner menu select restart when clicked menu see username , avatar. in menu 'shutdown','suspend' etc options gone? confirmation substance had hit fan dialog box opened. best guess 12.04's new crash reporting thing. guess there no text sqaure boxes (□). there several buttons on dialog box again having □'s. @ point decided press power button on pc. can't remember if had force shutdown.

upon restarting dialog saying "the system running in low graphics mode - screen, graphics card , input settings not detected. need configure them yourself. do?" then gives options 'run in low graphic mode', 'reconfig', 'troubleshoot error' or 'exit console'. doesn't matter unable move , down selection keyboard pressing , down results in nothing happening. cursor not present either. can press power off button on pc , respond. don't know if important when shutting down ubuntu takes console stating it's doing. amongst other things 'starting virtualbox deamon' etc says 'starting tmidia alas emulation [fail] don't know if that's help.

grub settings not display grub menu @ all. way edit grub menu whilst booted ubuntu. dusted off 11.04 install disc , put in. under places in nautilus see 900gb or partition ubuntu occupies. clicked mount, partition goes away list? went /media/ , found root directory folder names. 'etc', 'home', 'lib' don't appear accessed. imagine 12.04 uses newer ext4 release 11.04 knows , can't access it?

looks cutting edge ubuntu release shouldn't have graced machine several or more months (i had on latest , greatest. because it's cool right?). attempt fix 12.04 have college work , don't want spending lots of time trying fix it. notice when booting live cd's gives me option (when selecting install ubuntu) install prior ubuntu version on 12.04 whilst keeping personal files. work? if i'll doing that.

downgrading via livecd work? before deem necessary should try , fix 12.04?

don`t know if can much, because of "low graphical mode" presume wrong happen graphical manager. guess terminal mode after booting ubuntu. can go terminal pressing ctrl+alt+f1. log in , try rebuild graphical manager executing command:

i hope after able log desktop normally.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
