Thread: GNOME 3.4 user theme extension no longer works

i had ubuntu 12.04/gnome 3.4 combination , running since release of 12.04 until recently. began days ago status menu change (the 'log out' option has not been visible anymore), , 'theme' section of gnome tweak tool shows error icon says "'shell user-theme extension incorrectly installed" , shell theme selection menu grayed out.

known issue , how can solve it?

when first installed 12.04 had difficulty getting user theme extension install extensions web site. kept saying out of date.

after fair bit of head scratching , experimenting solution me when discovered other extensions still in .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ directory out of date. removing allowed things proceed again , able install , use user themes extension.

might worth checking location , /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions , see find. hope helps.
