Thread: How do I disable auto maximizing windows

i upgraded ubuntu 12.04 (w/ gnome 3.4.1) , found new "feature." if move window such touches upper dash, window automatically maximizes full screen. royal pain. how can disable "feature?" looked @ gconf-editor , did not see option disable this, perhaps has obscure name such did not recognize it.

depends on session running.
in gnome-shell appears both mutter option, path in dconf-editor (install dconf-tools) -
org.gnome.mutter edge-tiling
, shell option -
org.gnome.shell.overrides edge-tiling

make sure it's disabled in both, should in mutter default shell option one
code:
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.overrides edge-tiling false
in unity 3d it's grid compiz plugin, disable it. easier in ccsm though in gconf-editor, prefer ccsm here (compizconfig-settings-manager

either way cause compiz to 'reload' & things may freeze several seconds. if not returning force logout & should ok. (ctrl+alt+delete or ctrl+alt+print+k

(- myself if doing in ccsm 1st. disable unity plugin , make change, wait few seconds if need & re-enable unity.
