Thread: Upgrade or Build new?

lately been thinking of putting money main desktop computer either upgrading bit or building brand new , use old 1 else, server maybe, or htpc old tv.

have (from 2008 ):
2gb of ddr2 800
intel core 2 quad q6600 @ 2.40ghz
geforce 210 (had better video card before, broke. bought cheat local store make computer functional)
barebone

one, been thinking bit better video card, possibly mess around cuda , such, guess better gaming option nice (at least native-linux or wine games).
use bit more ram.

however, should upgrade motherboard , cpu well? , go sandybreadth?
think?

no point in buying whole new case, , if peripherals optical drives, hard drives, etc fine keep too. upgrade graphics card , if find perfromance still not you'd motherboard bundle has cpu & ram included. if can keep power consumption down enough should able keep current power supply. in many cases newer cpu require less power, new ivy bridge chips amazing energy saving.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
