Working with large product quantities

anyone have suggestions working large amounts of products.

the situation :

i have 25,000 odd items listed catalog, subcatalog , sub-subcatelog.  each item listed in shop : catalog, shop : catalog : subcatalog, shop : catalog : subcatalog : sub-subcatelog.

for example, "big red widget" listed in "widgets" catalog, "big widgets" subcatalog , "red" sub-subcatalog.

the result loading product pages large subcatalogs extremely slow results in 75,000 + product pages & 7,000+ catalogs/subcatalogs/sub-subcatalogs (seo issues can fixed having specific path followed).

while outside of slow loading, functional "shoppers" easy navigation using subcatalogs , sub-subcatalgos while viewing results.

my questions :

is there better way achieve same "filtering" , maintain similar functionality without having have products listed in each catalog & subcatalog & sub-subcatalog ?

each item has 3 attributes, updating pricing based on currency fluctuations means upload of 100,000 lines (the original 25,000 items + bc's additional 3 items of each attribute). uploads seem successful @ 1000-2000 items @ time , takes anywhere between 10-40 minutes each upload. rendering process flawed / inefficient.

the product stock updated daily based on daily csv export supplier items in shop hidden when out of stock same flawed process above.

how can / should done ?

i believe once covered topic @ bc sandpile>>http://www.bcsandpile.com/
