Thread: upgrade problems - No unity No menubar packages deleted menus in German!

hi there,

firstly - let me say, while have been using ubuntu while, still havent delved debugging - please tread lightly me...

did upgrade 11.10 12.04. seemed go smoothly in install except few errors broken packages, expected such pam-face-authentication , possibly things hugin.

however, upon first boot - not menus in german (!), though in language settings have english (australia) , english (united kingdom) above german in list , applied system-wide. know some, not enough navigate way around system!

so, other german menus - biggest problem fact have no unity, no launcher, , no top bar. cannot launch programs except opening multiple terminal windows using ctrl+alt+t , moving windows around others - because unity gone - there no alt+tab!

add insult injury - problems have been having firefox persitent (i lose arrows - bug report has been filed, no-one can reproduce bug), chromium, evolution (again, having issues thunderbird) , nvidia-settings packages deleted! in upgrade! , these ones have gone looking far... hope havent lost shotwell database too, biggest reason use ubuntu!

strangely - of wine desktop shortcuts there - old desktop background.

know long post - , strange case. going have rebuild , start again - hoping didnt have to! had got thing way wanted think might stick lts lts on...

btw - acer aspire 5738g laptop - until today ubuntu 10.10, 11.04 , fresh install of 11.10 ran flawlessly on!

whew. go hit upgrade problems.
personal recommendation- salvage data (copy entire ~/ including hidden files) , fresh installation. if grab whole home folder shotwell databases should in there well.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
