Help needed to view documents send in .pdf portfolio - only gray screen visible

various clients complaining unable view/retrieve documents have forwarded in .pdf portfolio format. see blank - grey - screen.   resolve appreciated.

make sure opening files in adobe reader or acrobat only, or in internet explorer using 1 of those. make sure understand various ways might open file without using adobe reader or acrobat, such in firefox, chrome or safari, or preview on mac. make sure have sufficiently date copy of reader/acrobat too.
