Thread: System becomes unresponsive - 11.10

i have been looking around bit, , have found others have had issue. however, nothing has worked...yet.

new, not afraid hands dirty terminal. want things running properly.

okay.

seems random. started month or ago. clicking along fine , suddenly...crap. can still move mouse, unable select windows , keyboard doesn't work.

running ubuntu 11.10 gnome3. before put gnome3 on, gnome2 (i think) didn't have normal 4 workspaces @ bottom right-hand corner. 1 workspace displayed. (that first breadcrumb me follow). able things going using:

metacity --replace

sucks since isn't fixing problem. option left hard-reboot (if call it)...which sucks.

help!

okay, 12.04. same thing after 2 days of perfect performance.

if has ideas @ all...where look...similar experiences...anything!

interesting piece of puzzle, happened while had banshee running. music continued play after "freeze".

@ total loss here....

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
