Thread: Ubuntu 12.04 Login fails

i upgraded ubuntu 11.10 12.04 , working fine. edited few settings in compizconfig (set launcher autohide , changed number of viewports 6) , continued work. followed steps here http://askubuntu.com/questions/12375...4-login-screen turn off drum noise @ login screen.
whenever start boot ubuntu can login screen , type password when hit enter says "logging in" , never logs in. can still turn caps lock on , off , mouse still works. can shutdown computer menu in upper right, can't desktop. ideas on how fix this? in advance tips

can read discussion below more details seems problem caused using wallpaper isn't default or changes periodically. instructions on how fix that, see post http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...94&postcount=3

by way, can login terminal pressing ctrl+alt+f1, there no issue account or password. guess either command "sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/" messed up, or more likely, compizconfig messed up. managed log 2d gui once or twice after issue started, of time doesn't work either. perhaps there way reinstall unity 3d/2d terminal? or maybe install gnome terminal , see if log in that?
