has 64bit processor, following gfx card...
===================================
via s3g unichrome pro: s3 unichrome (pro) directx 7 (without t&l) onboard graphic solution (shared memory) via laptops. mainly, intended office activities , hardly suited 3d games.

installation flawless.
clean install, formatted vista (yeah!!) 3 partitions..
root - 22gb
swap - 3gb
home - rest (around 130 gb).
used 64bit version of ubuntu.
believe problems facing gfx card.
doesn't run unity 3d.
installed ccsm, in beginning software center, didn't have options. did in terminal :
>> sudo apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-plugins <<
found here :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/co...ttings_manager
followed steps described in page above, had following problems:
-- first of ubuntu didn't detect proprietary drivers gfx card.
-- never asked me opengl.
-- in options in ccsm, there no option : desktop size. doesn't exist.
-- when right click on desktop , choose change background, on other computers can see option change size of icons in launcher. in one... no.
-- there should option "visual effects" , extra... doesn't exist.
-- when type "compiz --replace" force compiz start, gfx card goes crazy. display goes crazy, doing weird stuff... can see icons on launcher become smaller.. setting i've set on ccsm, , unity plugin.
-- after while system crashes , becomes inoperable. managed see report on terminal, saying : "this shouldn't have happened. should file bug report"... other that, copy contents of terminal, , post here because told laptop inoperable.... not stuck... active, couldn't click mouse, or change other applications... gui totally screwed up.
anyway.. have advice of should do?
told friend ubuntu laptop run faster , smoother.
* should install 32bit version?
* should go 2d version , tell him card doesn't support 3d environment?
other suggestions?
