Thread: How to load AMD Catalyst™ Proprietary Display Driver - Linux x86 & Linux x86_64.

how load driver onto computer? machine gigabyte a75m-d2h, , f1 socket , amd a6 apu. propose download binary file http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/am...x86.x86_64.run , save sd ram usb memory stick. plug in usb stick , restart machine. enter boot menu , set machine boot usb. presumably driver load firmware.
correct procedure? have never done firmware update before don't know it. cause me brick motherboard? hope not. please note can't use linux based features facilitate upgrade because can not boot linux. need load driver bios.

i went through hell dad's computer trying proprietary amd driver working sympathise.

don't know how install flash drive boot, happens when try boot normally? black screen (try kernel module nomodeset)? able load grub? if can shell (from grub), or root shell better, you're home , dry , can following.

first clear out fglrx stuff:

code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx* sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
... install new driver:

code:
sudo chmod 755 ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run sudo ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run
**very important: if/when gives number options [1] not hit enter, must enter number 1 enter. tearing hair out best part of day because of this.

finally, once it's installed successfully, this:

code:
sudo aticonfig --initial
then reboot , should gui.
