Thread: ubuntu 12.04 does not shutdwon/power off
hi,
have rather unusual problem ubuntu 12.04 lts. unusual meaning have not met problem before. installed ubuntu 12.04 32 bit next existing windows xp on hp micro tower stationary computer nvidia graphic card. works clockwork shut down , power off! when try shut down hangs , typing f2/f1 not display errors. tried couple of things among others modifying grub file "acpi=force" or nothing "". didnt help.
when shutting off once displayed following message:
"could not write bytes: broken pipe"
have idea how solve this?
hi! had issue on asus u36jc laptop. chance did install package called "laptop-tools"? changes hardware settings maximum battery life. not sure if can installed on desktop, aggressive power management issue.
1 of settings had enabled "sata link power management" on dev/sda
culprit me.
of course issue may differ, have same symptoms.
try program called "powertop" either synaptic or software center.
once installed, runs "sudo powertop" move left tab named "tunables" arrow keys, , says "good" it's "good" power saving, can cause issues. use enter key change values. if reset after logout or restart, there may else mentioned "laptops-tools" re-enabling it.
