Thread: Live USB

i'm using persistent live usb try out 12.04. i'll around installing soon, since seems work enough, have 1 question: if install software onto persistent usb, software installed along os when that? fresh install, not upgrade.

private files installed programs stored in casper-rw file or partition, overlayed original file system. persistent (remain after reboot or poweroff). not possible update/upgrade kernel.

think biggest disadvantage compared installed system takes lot of time @ reboot or poweroff write live system usb drive, , if have not patience or time enough, system corrupt, , have start clean casper-rw file or partition again. edit: flashing led indicator makes easier wait long enough

if want run persistent live or portable system, can 'install' normal way, usb drive instead of internal hdd. can update/upgrade without limitation (except size of usb drive).
