Thread: 12.04 will not boot after clean install

i have compaq sr5130nx (originally win7) given no hdd. installed seagate 40g hdd in machine , installed 12.04 live cd. no install errors reported. after install computer not boot - read error.

tested hdd seatools (dos), drive looks good. erased hdd , reinstalled 12.04. same failure.

downloaded super grub2 boot cd , tried boot cd. got "not known file system" message. used grub2 boot cd examine partitions. found "device hd0: not known filesystem. total size 16434495 sectors. partition hd0, msdos1"

used live cd @ partitions , shows /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 ext4, /dev/sda5 swap.

again tested hdd seatools , time noticed seatools showed drive "security freeze locked". did research on , found recommendations boot dos disk , fdisk on drive.

did fdisk, reinstalled 12.04, still doesn't work.

guess oem bios keeping hdd security freeze locke , preventing boot. while know how troubleshoot problems, i'm not familiar linux. suggestions appreciated.

i've had same problem.
after trying installing live cd 3 times, tried install bootable usb-drive, , worked me... still got problem doesn't show gui after startup

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
