Apple Spotlight and AE CC causing strange issues

i've been getting strange issue ae cc on imac. i'm compositing animated short film , have been getting lot of application hangs , crashes. comps have layered psds backgrounds, quicktime prores 4444+alpha characters , prerenders tiff sequences. while working wiht these scenes, i've experienced excessive amount of spinning beach balls , around  5 - 10 necessary force quits day. strange thing when notice application starting hang up, if hit "command+space" bring mac spotlight textbox, ae releases beachball , starts working again.  i've not noticed on ae cs6 or other application. have activity monitor @ times because of issue i'm not seeing out of ordinary.

 

i've rebuilt spotlight database, turned on , off through terminal, added drives privacy tab in system preferences, rebuild spotlight index files, cleaned user, system , font caches, booted in safe mode , upgraded os 10.7.5 10.8.4, problem still occurring. i've gone through , uninstalled several applications well, it's still happening. source located on external thunderbolt raid.

 

 

system specs:

ae cc 12.0.0.404

imac 27" mid 2011 (12,2) 3.4 ghz i7

16gb ram, radeon hd 6970m 2gb vram

internal ssd - main system & applications drive, 2tb internal secondary.

source footage on 15tb external thunderbolt arc-8050 raid-6

drobo-2nd gen time machine

i've not seen first place tiff sequences. maybe spotlight trying re-index them. have seen strange or hanging in activity monitor when happens?
