Thread: Can not get passed the splash screen on Presario V5000

hi everybody. i'm trying setup dual boot windows xp , flavor of ubuntu. tried ubuntu 12 windows installer. when rebooted , selected ubuntu windows advanced boot menu, machine freeze @ splash screen says "preparing launch ubuntu first time".

happened several times used ubuntu uninstaller within windows. tried booting ubuntu 12 live cd, again machine freeze @ splash screen dots displayed.

happened several times tried xubuntu, again no luck. i've verified check sums integrity , good.

checked out partitions in easeus partition master boot disk
have 45 gb free on c: ntfs
there unallocated 10mb partition. don't know or how long has been there when tried merge c:, program told me dangerous didn't.

here details of machine:
mobile amd sempron 3300+ processor
2gb ddr 166mhz pc 3200 (although windows gives 128mb graphics)
ati mobility radeon xpress 200

edit> clear not regarding lubuntu. added thread title mistake. can't find way remove it. maybe mod can?

i wanted provide update. tried xubuntu 12.04 alt disc , wiped whole hard drive. seemed install fine until end when time reboot. system froze during shutdown phase. when booting freeze @ loading bar.

tried xubuntu 11.10 live cd, wiped harddrive again , installed no problem. looks no v12 me @ least working.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
