Thread: Installing jdk in ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit)

i downloaded tar gz file of jdk , followed instructions at:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/55848...cle-java-jdk-7

java or javac not being recongnized.

later, downloaded .bin file of jre.
used following command:
sudo update-alternatives --install "/usr/bin/java" "java" "/usr/lib/jre/bin/java" 1

command "java" works.

used similar command "javac", not work i.e. javac not recognized.

real question is:

there really simple sun jdk installer ubuntu 12.04, has button named "install" , installs jdk?
if there not one, why not there one? should not there one?
simplest way install it?

(jdk should compatible netbeans 7.1.1)

i don't know if helps or not, having problems java 7... due install problems.... followed , working!
