MS Word 2010 import into InDesign CC

newbie getting familar indesign cc of sandee cohen indesign see can import styles. concerned importing toc , multiple pages.

 

i have book (technical publication) 60 pages ugly cover (don't need import)  , toc , number of styles chapter , heading , plenty of graphics embeded in tables ...one or 2 nested tables.  love rearrange , have idea of doing indesign ms word on steriods !! in graphics presentation good.

 

should experiment possibly 10 pages or go gusto , import whole book ...i on tight schedule in geting on pod , thought ask here.

 

i have copy editors looking reviewing parts in word have add more pages @ different intervals. 

being newbie not want screw installation of indesign want maximun production can , can not do.

 

also createspace , lightning source have stringent requirements ... how can tell quality of pictures using. 600 dpi  or cmyk

  1. i not import toc word @ all, recreate in indesign tools of indesign.
  2. i create paragraph styles inside indesign , not use of word's imported styles. indesign has far more possibilities in formatting word has. recommend rid of word formatting document.
  3. embedded graphics of word? doubt have quality need. resolution of 300ppi (not dpi!!!) should enough print, word embedded images have not resolution.
  4. i try graphics in print quality, probably, word embedded graphics not. best file type ai, psd, pdf, pdp, tiff , high quality jpg. try vector files ai, in ms office files used emf/wmf or rasterized png. 3 not print production.
  5. there no need have cmyk pictures place in indesign. convert images upon pdf export. btw in word never use cmyk images.
  6. take care images have valid color space, color profile , color space. word not support color profile.
  7. if not in routine in importing word indesign, test it. if work correctly styles, amount of work same if import 10 pages or 1000. breaking work in small groups increase amount of work have several times.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
