Save Queue / Watch Queue For "Build Server"
i'm trying use adobe media encoder cs6 in programming world call "build server", i.e. watch inputs new or changed , build output automatically when finds them.
specifically, want ame automatically notice when there new or changed ppro sequences, , automatically encode output sequences.
at first, "watched folder" feature seemed perfect. monitor given folder , when new file pops automatically encode it.
but there 2 problems...
- it doesn't seem support sequences. seriously?
- even if did support sequences, seems new items - not modified
so started thinking "save queue" approach (queue ppro sequences in ame, save queue, backup "batch.xml" file, "restore" "batch.xml" file later when need re-export)
doing kind of give me "watched folder" kind of functionality sequences, except:
- it's opposite of watched folder in re-export existing sequences , *not* new ones (of course, guess restore, add new sequences, re-back-up "batch.xml" again...)
- it's not automatic - i'd have manually restore / run open ame
- a sequence encoded regardless whether changed.
the "watched folder" seems no-go because doesn't support sequences. "batch.xml" seems pretty kludgy, guess it's better having manually re-enter sequence information every time changes (i.e. ppro > select sequence > file > export > select filename > yes replace > choose "entire sequence" > choose "queue" > "yes" replace filename again > ugh).
does have ideas? can't believe i'm person in world has seemingly basic unmet need.
oh, 1 other thing noticed "save queue" approach.
if @ batch.xml file itself, you'll notice "parentprojectfile" not sequence exported, rather copy of it.
for example, have project "e:\video\home movies\dvd7-003.prproj", sequence called "master". exported sequence via export > media > queue, looked @ "batch.xml" created ame > file > save queue.
the parentprojectfile not "e:\video\home movies\dvd7-003.prproj", rather "c:\windows\temp\dvd-003_8.prproj". first thought "snapshot" copy of project, file comparison showed very, different. actually, cursory glance have shown that: e:\ project file 7.7mb, c:\ project file 5.5mb.
so long story short, i not trust backup / restore of "batch.xml" want.
it's not pointing same project, it's not pointing copy of project, , if temp directory gets cleaned out, ame fail when try encode (since it's referencing file no longer exists).
