Thread: Upgrading from 10.10 to 12.04 - Can't log into account

hello, upgraded 1 of ubuntu installs 10.10 12.04 upgrading cd bypass step step upgrade. upgrade maintained of data, home folder , installed apps, account didn't roll on , new account created.

logged new account , did add user same username , password old account , made admin. can log said account via terminal , home directory's content linked correctly, when try log account login screen, takes password, screen goes black , kicks login screen.

ideas? there . files need nuke gnome 3, etc?

you correct.

update installed user files new user's hidden . files , user have reinstated not have new settings. not sure best salvage, besure have backups.

try rsync new user's hidden files & folders old, not sure overwrites. again backup.
