More memory?

my current workstation build 5 years old. find still  fast enough don't fell itch rebuild yet.

 

i have 8gb ram, i've been wondering if upping 16gb give significant performance boost. problem need 4 4gb ddr2 memory sticks, way more expensive corresponding ddr3.

 

so, 16gb noticable improvement? or, maybe replace 2 of current sticks,  12gb? if it's help, have dedicated 125gb wd velociraptor scratch disk.

depends on files work with, unless use large files hundreds of layers or use merge hdr time, it's unlikely see difference. other stuff end 1 way or in ps' page file. perhaps using history brush/ history states , layer comps lot might benefit more ram...
