was wondering, there way make keyboard shortcuts? example ctrl+alt+f opens firefox.

text entry shortcuts

if want have quick access lines of text using hotkey, example enter email address in forms, can use xbindkeys. xbindkeys has gui utility allow easy settings of hotkeys, aware it's little more complicated default ubuntu shortcutkeys interface.
install xbindkeys
sudo apt-get install xbindkeyscreate default config file xbindkeys
xbindkeys --defaults > /home/your-user-name/.xbindkeysrcwhen thats done, install xbindkeys-config, gui xbindkeys
sudo apt-get install xbindkeys-confignow utility "typing"
sudo apt-get install xvkbdonce each installed, start both applications bringing "run application" alt -f2.
xbindkeysand
xbindkeys-config
keep xbindkeys hotkeys active when next start computer have add new session, system --> preferences --> sessions. put in command "xbindkeys" command field (without quotes).
