Thread: Upgrading 11.10 to 12.04, many problems along the way
first off, laptop specs:
hp pavilion zv5000. took 11.10 without issue.
processor = intel pentium 4, 3ghz
ram = 640mb originally, upgraded 2gb. pretty zippy now.
hdd = 80gb, 20gb free space
first try, online update through update manager.
received following error:
unresolvable problem occurred while calculating upgrade:
e:unable correct problems, have held broken packages.
can caused by:
* upgrading pre-release version of ubuntu
* running current pre-release version of ubuntu
* unofficial software packages not provided ubuntu
if none of applies, please report bug using
command 'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in terminal.
tried through terminal window, in case -- same error.
did following:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
came clean, nothing broken.
ran 12.04 upgrade again, same error.
tried live cd option overlay 12.04 on top of 11.10 , keep files.
cd option wouldn't let me select -- choose install aside 11.10 , choose @ boot, or fresh install...
i'm in second day of attempting upgrade, , still getting nowhere.
i'm @ point on doing clean install, have cloned laptop onto portable usb drive...
hate spend time reinstalling apps...
else encountering issue, particularly live cd install, trying upgrade via cd overlay option?
thoughts, suggestions welcome
did little research on live cd issue. apparently, whatever reason, can select option install 12.04 on top of 11.10 installation when you're connected internet.
not problem, typically, broadcomm wireless adapter doesn't work under live cd.
had wait until got home, , ran long cat5 cable router. have option upgrade using live cd.
updates happen.
