Thread: Strange wireless/network manager problems

hi everyone,

installed xubuntu 11.10 on old medion pentium4 pc have @ home. system has ralink wireless adapter(25xx model) on motherboard. adapter recognized.

i'm having trouble establishing proper network connection via wireless adapter. tried following devices:

- onboard chip mentioned above , supported ubuntu.

- atheros based tp-link pci wireless adapter (tl-wn851n) uses ath9k driver , functions on brothers pc (xubuntu 11.10/ win7 dual boot).

-dlink dwa 131 (usb) functions under ubuntu 12.04 , xubuntu 11.10 on other pc.

crazy thing can connect internet using these commands tp-link card:

- ifconfig wlan1 up
- iwconfig essid "networkname"
- dhclient wlan1

after using these 3 commands superuser perfect connection internet networkmanager still shows no connection , sais devices disabled hardware switch. need use these commands every time reboot. , putting in script no solution because software center doesn't work (it seems rely on data network manager).

sidenote did:

- rfkill unblock all
- rfkill list all

shows onboard wlan disabled hard- or software switch.

installed 12.04 have yet try it. it'll same though. during install couldn't choose acces point connect wifi device use.

can supply more details iw/ipconfig if need be.

installed windows driver ndiswrapper now. recognizes hardware don't know if or how should use driver.

suggestions welcome. in advance, jors.

edit: reading sticky on ndiswrapper , other thread gonna try more tomorrow.
