Thread: Choosing a faster mirror from the command line
hi all,
i'm getting slow package download speeds local mirror (http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/).
know can select faster mirrors using gui tools, slimmed-down server install no graphical environment installed yet.
there command-line tool available in current versions of ubuntu selects faster mirror ?
read instructions @ http://askubuntu.com/questions/39922...e-command-line adding following top of sources.list file:
however, after adding these, installs still select gb.archive.ubuntu.com mirror use, , i'm still seeing speeds of 22k/sdeb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt precise main restricted universe multiverse
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt precise-updates main restricted universe multiverse
advice appreciated!
the lines added not actual mirrors.
aware 12.04 has been released , lot of servers running lots of people downloading , installing new version.
changing server might not help.it after new release.
in link quoted there line update sources.list file
this changes lines in sources.list file , uses us server called mirror.math.ucdavis.edu.so need know actual name of server , in country located.sed 's/us\.archive\.ubuntu\.com/mirror.math.ucdavis.edu/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
can find names of servers in software sources in button called find best server
luck
