Thread: Cannot Read from Samba Share

i created samba share using samba server configuration tool. have tried connecting share through both windows 7 , wii. however, not working should.

- if change access allow access specific user, windows 7 prompt password; however, after entering password, access denied.

- if change access allow access everyone, can browse share using windows. however, receive error if try open file. same thing happens on wii.

samba share had on 11.04 working fine, did complete reinstall when upgraded 12.04, , cannot work now.

i looked samba logs , found there single error causing issue, if allow access everyone:

passdb\lookup_sid.c:1667(get_primary_group_sid)
failed find unix acount wiicheck_sam_security:make_server_info_sam() failed 'nt_status_no_such_user'

there samba user created named "wii", not user account named "wii". thought samba didn't require user account created in order create "windows user" windows have access. problem here?

edit: solved part of problem opening "users , groups" , adding user account group "wii". now, can restrict access "wii" , log in through windows using samba username , password. however, still receive error whenever try open or read file in share.

edit2: solved (mostly). able work right-clicking on folder want share, going properties, , permissions tab. changed "other" read , write, , works.

reason solved because have no idea why did not work before. "read" permission, don't know why change allowed files read when couldn't read before.
