Thread: Samba is picky about whether I use wireless or wired NIC

home network consists of:

main - pc wired router @ 192.168.1.2. dual boots win 7 & xubuntu 12.04.

laptop-wired - lenovo t60 on 192.168.1.3 dual boots win 7 , xubuntu 12.04. ip belongs wired nic.

laptop-wireless - same lenovo t60 wireless nic on 192.168.1.4.

android phone - sees , connects shares... doesn't care. seriously, google did networking thing right start.

here's problem: i've got laptop , main pc sharing folders fine. windows shares linux , vice-versa, regardless of computer booted os - long laptop plugged lan via wired nic. minute un-plug it, laptop reverts wireless nic , has access router , full internet access, cannot connect shares on main regardless of os current running on main.

experiment, unplugged laptop , rebooted it. connects shares on main fine. if plug in, directs traffic thru wired nic (i can tell icon in xubuntu taskbar) , well. unplug wired nic , wireless nic able connect same shares fine.

therefore, seems time have problem if laptop booted wired nic... diconnect , reverts wireless nic... bit can no longer access shares on main.

however, if boot laptop using wireless nic (unplugged) has no problem sharing regardless of nic in use.

summarize, if laptop connected via wired nic , unplugged, has no problem going wireless nic internet access through router. however, cannot access shares on main pc (which wired). if other way around... boot unplugged... wireless nic can access shares. can plug in wired nic , still access shares. can unplug , go wireless nic , still access shares.

seems way guarantee laptop can access shares whether it's using wired or wireless nic: boot wireless nic (unplugged).

there setting can change? perhaps should file bug?

bump. ideas? should report bug against samba?

Thread: video metadata editing??

i have been searching time way edit metadata of video file created along de-novo file. specifically, vlc example, displays metadata text when begins playing file. trying access to. seems me, if there way create metadata in first place, there *must* way edit it. how? using either 11.04 or 12.04 kubuntu. nautilus it's nice icon displays of photos , vids. typically use gwenview , gimp photos , vlc , avidemux video. these tools work things, occasionally, there video has wrong or verbose metadata , far have found no way edit stuff. vlc has option purports work in cases, not reliable, looking swiss-army-knife solution can handle multiple formats (avi/wmv/mpg/mp4/etc/etc) in manner exfalso audio files. "ffmpg" command-line tool not work way, may part of app does. there video geek out there in ubu-land has known solution? folks use create these files in first place? thanks, ct use c...
