Thread: Can not boot since updating to 12.04
hello,
not ask help, rtfm , google preferred methods. however, time stuck , have no idea solution be.
since updating 12.04 via update manager, have encountered several issues. more annoying others. after hours of fixing them 1 after another, gave , decided fresh install.
install went fine, when booting greeted grub rescue prompt , following error "could not find device: hdd-were-ubuntu-is-installed". note: not written sdc rather long stream of seemingly random numbers.
after rebooting , facing same issue, booted live cd, checked hdd fine , grub correctly installed in it. used boot-repair (default settings) , rebooted: same issue.
decided install grub manually: "error: not find sdc, verify device fine etc...". tried running boot-repair again, time making sure erase previous installation: boot repair froze. rebooted, retested boot repair, same issue.
reinstalled 12.04, setting partitions manually , installing grub sdc (same drive os) faced same error.
stranded , not know else do, appreciated.
config:
desktop pc working fine, enough power , no compatibility issues.
hhd: 4x500gb drives, sda & sdb made 1 hardware raid0, old , unused windows install on it, used storage, sdc os drive , sdd additional storage.
tl;dr: can't boot, error grub, tried fixing grub , reinstalling: same issue.
update:
tried running boot-repair again, time did not froze, same issue after reboot.
tried using grub rescue prompt.
note: have no floppy installed, every os on machine detects one, never understood why.code:>ls (hd0) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos5) (hd1, msdos2) (hd2) (fd0) > ls (hd2) /boot/grub error: unkown filesystem (tried same every partition, got same error, except fd0 sending read error , hd1,msdos2 sending bad filename)
update 2:
tried reseting bios default (thus deactivating raid) , choose first device boot hhd ubuntu is: same issue.
