Thread: 12.04 update/boot problems

i have upgraded 11.10 12.04 , when run updates 12.04 , restart computer, goes purple loading page , freezes there. have tried re-installing several times , several different ways, continues it. if not install updates runs fine , turns on. think there problem 1 of updates. can do? thanks! tried reinstallation of update manager , didn't help, still hangs on boot. mounted system read/write in recovery mode through shell prompt, , tried update , upgrade, gave me lot of errors, , still didn't fix problem, thing changed see message when hangs in shell line saying swapon failed mountall failed problem activating swap. please? in advance.

try doing clean-install.
remember backup data encryption keys (if any).

1. pop cd in optical-drive bay.
2. wipe drive clean.
3. make partition swap(recommended double size of ram, linux efficient 512mib more enough 4gib ram)
4. make ext4 /home (just on safe side)
5. make 1 ext4 os , use /
6. select partition install bootloader in.

prefer make dedicated /boot, system runs fine swap , /

if attempt proceed through clean-install without making swap information there might errors in installation. reason, make swap of size equal ram.

if don't want wipe hdd/ssd clean, relocate data convenient place (i prefer end of drive) , 1. , 3. 5.

there better , verbose install guides on forum in section, tutorials.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
