Text Tool not Responding

i'm getting horizontal line when try type letter in photoshop cs6.  no brush presets seems. painting in ps cs6.

i use apple  os x ver 10.8. 

how fix it?  i'm not sure i'm in right forum appreciated

is type tool set same colour background?  text size tiny?  try oking line of text, , using free transform enlarge it.

 

to properly, oepn image size panel , see linear dimesions of image are.  if daft ten miles 8 miles, , dpi set 1, uncheck resample , change dpi 300.  

 

i set preferences type size defaults milimetres (or inches).  way can predict how big type appear on image document.
