Thread: Advice please: Toshiba L500 vs Lenovo G555

i'm new laptop, , have narrowed field down following machines:

lenovo g555

cpu: amd athlon ii 2,1ghz dual-core (m320)
gpu: 512mb ati mobility radeon hd 4550
ram: 4096 mb
hdd: 320gb 5400rpm
screen: 15,6 tft (1366x768) wxga, vibrantview, m/ webcam

toshiba satellite l500-1ut

cpu: intel pentium dual core 2,2ghz (t4400)
gpu: 512mb - ati mobility radeon hd 4570
ram: 4096 mb
hdd: 320g 5400rpm
screen: 15,6" tft (1366x768) wxga trubrite

main differences cpus , lesser extend gpus. search on ubuntu forums reveal they're both compatible ubuntu, although people few annoyances or malfunctions.

the question 1 should get?

i'm looking info on how both cpus , gpus perform in newer version of ubuntu.

use laptop for;
> light video editing (kdenlive)
> graphics (gimp)
> python (idle , pygame)

... , of course web browsing.

time

i have 2 toshiba satellite l500s , both work great right out of box ubuntu not have ati card.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
