Thread: MDADM Booting Issues

my system has 4 sata ports on motherboard, , added pcie card 2 more sata ports.

system boots off /dev/sda1, no problem.

had linear raid (just 2 disks glued together) on /dev/sdb1 , /dev/sdc1. since added 2 more drives on /dev/sdd1 , /dev/sde1. now, /dev/sde drive on add-in card gives me more sata ports.

when boot, complains there's drive missing, /dev/sde1. however, if past shell , exit ubuntu itself, /dev/sde1 there, , can start raid console.

there way can make sata card initialize it's drives before mdadm tries assemble? or, there way stop mdadm checking @ boot , can have rc.local script assamble , mount it?

tried bootdegraded=true 1 drive "missing" linear array, it's not degraded, it's broken, , still halts boot process.

please help!

many in advance.

if run
code:
dpkg-reconfigure mdadm
you can tell mdadm not start arrays. finally, you'd need run mdadm assemble command in rc.local suggested.

other thing goofing if explicitly listed disks in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file, , they're no longer in same positions. what's output of.
code:
cat /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
and
code:
cat /proc/mdstat
