New machine
working professional photographer mac pro 1,1 (2x 2,66ghz dual core) needs urgent retirement.
i'me dealing 30mb raw files , big catalogues (around 80.000 photos each) , lightroom workflow has become slow. new camera files demand lr5 can't install on old mac pro...
options consider:
2nd hand mac pro 5,1 2300€
6 core 3.33ghz
24gb ram 1333
120 gb ssd (plus 3 2tb hhd have in mac photos)
5770 1gb graphics
1 year warranty
new mac mini 1650€
2,3 ghz i7
16gb ram 1600
1tb fusion drive
western digital 6tb thunderbolt external
the mini way cheaper not sure major improvement actual machine.
but might better investment , consider new mac pro in 1 year time....
any appreciated. thanks.
i've sold mac pro same specs you're considering, , funnily enough, i've got same mac mini running server unit. haven't compared lightroom specifically, machines used different tasks, gut feeling mac pro still outrun mini. ssd alone makes nice difference if put catalog on there. geekbench scores seem up. http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
that said, mini's surprisingly nippy, considering cost, if buy ram third party owc rather paying apple it.
i guess depends how upgrade in year's time.
