Thread: I would quite like my desktop background to be an active terminal
i wondering whether ever happen?
by default in ubuntu, desktop surface controlled gnome-program. controls show , happens when left-click or right-click. x11-window system allows program run in "root window", have tell gnome give up. there instructions on web how run video, terminal, or screensaver wallpaper, don't know if apply recent versions of ubuntu or gnome.
if find no how-to neuters gnome in current ubuntu, there screenlet may want. install screenlets , start it. click get more screenlets, search terminal (or go section "t"), go terminal spdf, download, unpack .tar.gz-file , extract terminal folder in ~/.screenlets folder (that is, you'll have ~/.screenlets/terminal folder). search terminal in screenlet manager , launch/add it. in terminal, right-click>properties>options , set opacity, keep below, , sizing>border width wish. (disclaimer: have not tested in ubuntu.)
