Thread: 12.04 only resolution 640x480

on start , @ log in, resolution available 640x480. once logged in, system settings> displays offers 640x480, , laptop.

nvidia x server configuration warns: not appear using nvidia x driver. please edit x configuration file (just run 'nvidia-xconfig' root) , restart x-server.

if press ctrl/alt/f1 , log on, , try that, reports:
error: unable write directory '/etc/x11'.

please tell me how next proceed?

install nvidia drivers , make sure don't have nomodeset kernel cmdline option (it limits res).
