Thread: Basic security

hi, new ubuntu.

have been using windows7 these days. basically, keep secure, turn on auto updates, use microsoft security essentials, push uac control settings highest, disable browser cookies , use sandboxie when browse lot.

can mention basic tweaks ubuntu 12.04 ones we'd on win7 - firewall settings/ antivirus , supposed done basically.

!) there great security sticky's here on forum.

small contribution: disable things don't need via start-up applications

code:
sudo sed --in-place 's/nodisplay=true/nodisplay=false/g' *.desktop
now have list of applications applications start automagically. don't need them? disable them.

<disable avahi deamon.

<enable ufw, strong outbound rules. see security sticky's.

<monitor system with:

code:
netstat -taupen
code:
netstat -tulnp
code:
sudo lsof -n -p -i
lets discuss outcome
