Thread: GRUB Error - cannot boot

greetings

have done believe extensive googling on issue looked through these forums, not believe there solution this, if mistaken please direct me it.

have 2 harddrives, 1tb main drive , 60gb ssd. run ubuntu 12.04 , windows 7 both 64bit on 1tb drive, , there no operating systems on ssd not believe have relevance in matter.

few weeks ago upgraded ubuntu 12.04 lts 64bit 11.10 - went fine. system running nicely since then, , other day ran 'apt-get update' followed 'apt-get upgrade' everyhting date; while not involving culprit, believe may because booted fine next time after stuck following @ boot:

error: elf sections outside core.
when tried run 'insmod /boot/grub/linux.mod' returned same error. went around internet , followed guide http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1581099 no avail. after following guide http://opensource-sidh.blogspot.com/...ubuntu-cd.html got different error @ boot:

error: invalid arch independent elf magic.
while know latter of errors has been experienced many users, have tried every solution can find in attempt resolve it, including http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1965810 have had no luck. tried running boot-repair well, including purging , reinstalling latest kernel, did not work either.

honestly @ point willing reinstall linux distro on current linux partition if windows partition still readily accessed new install, if seems cannot fixed advice on appreciated well.

hi, relatively new linux (have used many live disks) , have had install of ubuntu 12.04 few days now. part have found easy use , have been comfortable it. have first question can't resolve myself: adding googles repository list. when first ran command supplied google found did not have wget installed. used apt-get install it. worked fine (as far can tell) re-ran googles code : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add -deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free , message 'gpg: conflicting commands' tell me going wrong , how fix please new script : wget -q https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -o- | sudo apt-key add linux_signing_key.pub need edit /etc/apt/sources.list , add line @ end deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free end hope find usefull edit: need root or use sudo make changes /etc/apt/sour...
