Thread: Upgrade Problem with Ubuntu 12.04 - No icons
hello everybody, ask problem:
newbie ubuntu. installed ubuntu 11.10 in laptop side side windows 7. spare around 50 gb ubuntu, , used rest windows. several months after, come notification said new version avalaible.
chose upgrade ubuntu version 12.04, , terminal showed me lot of things. after process finished, asked me restart computer. did restart, encountered these problem:
1. in log in screen, able type password log in, other icon not exist. so, can there @ calendar, time, shut down , log in.
(attachment trouble_1 , trouble_2 shows display)
2. after logged in, screen give me blue screen shown in attachment trouble_3 without anything. couldn't access terminal nor have access anything. can pressing ctrl+alt+del log out, , meet log in screen again.
questions are:
1. how solve problem? don't have button pressed, nor option chosen on screen.
2. if need reinstall ubuntu, how can reinstall in space occupied previous version? (the 50gb used version 11.10, don't need spare more space hard disk) , how reinstall it? boot installation cd or terminal?
additional info:
laptop is: acer aspire timeline x
intel core i5-460, 64 bit, ati mobility radeon hd 5650.

very familar not alone try switching ubuntu 2d may boot unity launcher , graphics , may not has happened update not complete there uninstaled libraries ..
other wise if have internet connection , can terminal ..
try typeing these codes
there may packages down loaded couldnt installcode:sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade -f
if things still arent try these codes sudo apt-get install -f , configure -a ..
else might have other options in if dont work can use live cd boot , copy files , such new clean install, happen 2 upgrades did nad reinstalled ...
