after upgrading 12.04 dns did not work , there no nameserver entries in /etc/resolv.conf. followed post use resolvconf package add nameservers , permits internet access through firefox. however, synaptic package manager still can't find install files on internet. i've tried changing proxy server settings no avail. there other changes need make allow dns work package? i think changes done in 12.04. don't use /etc/resolv.conf directly, think gets overwritten anyway. click network manager icon , select edit connections. select wired or wireless connection. click edit, ipv4 tab, , change option automatic automatic (address only). below, in dns field enter nameservers want use. check if sorts out. it's not beautiful, should work. i have cc applications , apps have same issue.  when try select font type preview of many in asian or south-west asian language.  however, if select 1 type appears in english.  since not fluent in whatever languages these fonts previewing, makes difficult idea unless enter type every one.   i looked @ "adobefnt_cmaps.lst" , saw under "ordering:japan1".  don't know if clue, know how sync english preview english type.   the fonts using native windows 7 , native adobe.  can pull-up "font panel" in win 7 and, instance, adobe devanagari appears in devangari (if language exists) types in english.  realize font names sound asian or mid-eastern language, maybe, intended not english font, if case know can disable them.   1.  should cmaps changed :"ordering:japan1" (please enter correct answer here)? 2.  these fonts supposed language in appear on thumbnails , not , should delete them? 3.  there other fix? 4.  know free low cost web/...

i had strange happen after tried upgrade ubuntu 12.04. started download first time, saw slow, cancelled it, , waited week. started again, , crashed in middle , ended having re-install system using live cd. @ 12.04, reason have problem persisting: after first attempt @ upgrading, computer stopped turning screen off or locking screen after turned off. checked screen lock settings , said should turn off screen after 10 mintues , screen goes black lock it. assume turned off during upgrade process prevent computer sleeping while upgrading, why isn't turned on now? inconvenient since when manually ctrl-alt-l lock screen, monitor stays on , shows black needlessly wearing out ccfls in monitor. know how fix (other remembering turn off monitor , remembering lock computer when walking away)? gui of no since says should locking , that. also, locking used make screen fade black , sudden when press ctrl-alt-l if symptom of problem (it new behavior...idk). ...

i want remove shortcut "impromptu slideshow". many times have unintenionally hit command + return combo , started process of creating slideshow. happens when in hurry , hurts having wait procedure complete before can exit slideshow mode , continue work. don't use slideshows @ all, not useless command wastes time , want out.   i searched "application support" , opened program package, couldn't find file contains keyboard shortcuts. has somewhere, though.   lightroom 4 on mac os. appreciated. for lr4 on win7 removed file slideshow.lrmodule lr program folder. impromptu slideshow , slideshow module gone, ctrl + enter has no effect.   perhaps can try this. not know slideshow module filename , location on mac os. i trying learn layers , layer masks.  loaded image, control j duplicate it.  added layer mask.  far.  went filters chose blur.  went brushes black foreground color, wanted brush away blur, , got error message. "could not use history brush because history state not have corresponding layer." not sure how fix. mike make sure you're using regular bush (shortcut b) rather history brush (shortcut y).  need paint white or black on layer mask.  not need change history. hello,   i have problem concerning dng converting process of nef (raw) files of nikon d5200 dng files. nef file should have 14 bit color space (according manual`s on p. 234 - - http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/dslr/d5200rm_nt(11)01.pdf - camera capture nef file 14 bit file, not in 12 bit files; there no setting in den d7100 change e.g. 12 bit). problem in lightroom when convert nefs in lightroom in dngs shows me dngs 12 bit?! if go library > right toolbar > metadata > dng > "bit pro sample" says 12 , not 14   how be? there chance fix , if so, way correct this?   many help! there no way "fix" this.  raw images, , includes dng files, opened in lightroom in 16 bit workspace anyway.  there's no way control difference.  , wouldn't able see difference if change it.  not worry about.  forgets , have fun taking pictures. hi, i've done stupid.. created raw vmdk of ssd i've put ubuntu , windows on. i've done in past no problem, because want boot windows without having shutdown ubuntu. did again in new ubuntu 12.04 installation (after 1.5 days of configuring nicely!). when boot first time got warning pop-up on virtualbox (something usual, capturing mouse/keyboard). while reading it, virtualbox booting ubuntu again virtually (inception), first in grub2-menu. knew dangers of it.. (that stupid pop-up blame ><) ubuntu got bit corrupt... no sound, , graphics seem off while booting up/shutting down, , in tty. please tell me there's way repair this? don't forward installing ubuntu configuration again (takes ages development programs). time. looking forward help. edit1: seems sound after reboot, although takes while "load in". when shutting down says "stopping virtualbox kernel modules...". suppose that's not normal? edit2: booted ...

hi   i've started experimenting footage taken gopro hero3 black. ppro 5.5 correctly identifying footage i've taken 100fps , i've got few questions using in ppro in best way:   i'm using hdv 1080i25 project. appropriate preset or should use different 1 or create own settings? if latter, recommendation be? ultimately, want watch footage on tv displayed ona computer. i'm not sure, example, if should using 1080p or if should using editing mode supports square pixels (e.g. avc-intra). since gopro footage being captured @ 100fps, mean can set clip speed/duration 25% , not suffer quality loss? if not, there way ppro slow footage down without re-interpretation of frames? in export testing i've done, i'm using hdtv 1080p 25 high quality preset. outputs 1920x1080 pal 25 fps, de-interlaced. however, when play footage on computer, *looks* if interlacing has been introduced somewhere because frames if alternate lines missing. have done wrong settings result in lower qual...

i've been using 1 form of ubuntu/or on laptop 3 years now. i've never gotten microphone work properly. presently i'm using xubuntu 11.10 , shortly upgrading 12.04 (i have ubuntu 12.04 on separate partition). whether it's ubuntu, lubuntu, xubuntu, or whatever, symptoms same. if i: 1.) play tune in clementine (or audio player); 2.) or if speak loudly microphone (plugged jack) 3.) open pulse audio volume control , crank left & right microphone sound levels; 4.) crank alsamixer mic; 5.) , press record in audacity *can*, can record being played, can just, hardly, barely, oh faintly hear under layer of white noise. tells me hardware working , recognized. *somewhere* there setting needs tweaked. can solve this? bump. in case...
