hi forum. i've been having problems installing version of ubuntu or linux mint on computer. everytime installed ubuntu on standalone partition have same problem. screen works through installation, when reboot , boot on ubuntu, screen starts flicker , see line of pixels on top of monitor. think may hardware compatibility. thing is, until week, could solve problem using wubi, , worked charm. days ago decided try , install again on standalone partition, giving 12.04 came in, maybe problems solved. created partition , same problem. so, tried wubi again, after wiping standalone partition (which left unallocated space couldn't delete windows7 installer). problem time wubi giving me same flickering screen thing. so, basically, computer boots ubuntu screen partially dead. tried log in through root via terminal , download recommended ati drivers, don't know why couldn't succeed. here system specs: intel core i7-2600k asus p8p67-pro ati sapphir...

hello friends: here's situation: have friend's laptop (hp g60 32 bit windows vista) trying diagnose/troubleshoot. mentioned in thread ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1961591 ; same machine) had hard drive errors (bad sectors , temp. control) found running several scans (badblocks, gsmartmon, fsck, etc.) after cloning image clonezilla & wiping disc (zeroed dban), restored image original internal drive , ran tests again came clean. mentioned in linked thread, there continuous bios beep while windows freezes on black screen white text reading "windows loading files" loading bar. beep persists , loading makes no progress. i tried in thread, got 0 response. i'll try rephrase here. have ubuntu 12.04 working on new computer. bought new logitech 2.1 speakers. work in windows, sound comes out of 1 speaker , sub in ubuntu. in "sound" settings shows mode "analog stereo duplex" next setting being 4.0, 5.1, etc. allows me adjust left-right balance, results in speaker works being silenced. hardware: hp pavilion dv1000 notebook (model dv16010us) 1 gb ram os: windows xp ubuntu desktop 12.04 lts precise pangolin installed second operating system using windows installer wubi www.ubuntu.org . problem: boot freezes @ splash screen. after completing installation , booting machine, selecting "ubuntu" (versus windows) @ microsoft multiboot screen, ubuntu splash screen appears , dots start cycle couple minutes, freeze. keyboard unresponsive. power cycle necessary reboot. diagnosis: after rebooting , freezing couple times, selected second ubuntu boot option (recovery console) , watched text messages scroll during boot process. stopped on section message visiting wireless.kernel.org. apparent cause: broadcom wireless firmware not installed. workaround: install broadcom firmware package. process: attach notebook router using ethernet rj45 cable. boot, select ubuntu @ microsoft multiboot, type 'e' when grub screen appears (...
