i upgraded via upgrade manager 11.10 12.04. seemed go ok on reboot...no wireless nor wired network , cannot revive it. booted thru grub , tried "previous linux version" , voila, got wireless working. now, how can tell grub boot version. on "previous version" menu "generic" not generic-pae. i troubleshooting startup issues - purple splash screen grub masking boot process. have been trying disable splash screen , display full boot process (similar how debian works). have edited grub_cmdline_linux_default variable in /etc/default/grub file , removed quiet , slash entries. achieved 1/2 of goal. can see partial boot process on screen (similar logged in /var/log/boot.log). still unable display first half of boot process on screen (i.e. similar captured in dmesg). after selecting desired boot entry in grub, left @ blank purple screen number of seconds. screen wish disable. in advance help. the situation couldn't simpler. yesterday downloaded alternate installer 12.04 , installed system on hard drive in system, selecting guided partitioning using enitre disk. entire installation went flawlessly, , network available enitre time package retrieval. system rebooted perfectly, , proceeded allow update manager, launched spontaneously, download , install new updates, bringing entire system date of hour ago. after installing openssh-server manually, rebooted system update-manager requested - find myself stuck @ grub prompt. surprised given previous - , - boot of system had been successful. screen says: gnu grub version 1.99-21ubuntu3 minimal bash-like line editing supported. first word, tab lists possible command completions. anywhere else tab lists possible device or file completions. grub> have tried far rerun grub-install according directions here . although 12.04 live cd fails boot completely, apparently having problem video driver, why us...

have come across pesky file crashes acorbat xi pro when attempting ocr.  combination of settings, doesn't seem matter.  other pdf files ocr fine.  acrobat updated of posting question.  suggestions? my solution in such situation 1) try save document , see if fixes it; 2) try printing pdf pdf printer , try ocr again; side effect may lower quality document or larger file (depending on settings use); adjust needed; 3) try exporting document jpg , recombine; ocr results. dumping pdf jpg may produce better quality pdf, increase file size as 10x unless optimizations applied.   i've had success in using optimization features of acrobat , reduce file size process keep file size down (using acrobat xi pro).   hope 1 of works you.   ps: if need bookmarks, after successful ocr, open original file has bookmarks , replace pages ocred pages. hi, had problems wireless connection on newly installed kubuntu 12.04 "precise" os. @ stage of trying configuration, had cleared connection icon tool bar. managed wifi problem resolved , indeed write while wifi connected internet! icon indicates connection no longer on toolbar. restore on toolbar. handy indicator of wifi connection. in case not clear mean, permanently removed icon looks speaker icon, turned "waves" spread vertically upwards (the icon speaker has waves spreading horizontally). should possible restore icon, have no idea how it.. i have edited video , inserted title before video starts. have title zoom , while zooming, fade in. apply zoom begining of title on timeline, edit duration , start , end size try add fade fade overwrites zoom. on videos found, drag , drop effects onto clips on timeline (i have add them either front or back) appears on effect controls under video effects. when it, not see effect under that, can see effect options when click on effect on time line.   i have tried same thing video , can add 1 effect each clip.   what doing wrong? how can add multiple effects things on timeline? i may have answered it. added zoom , edited options, right clicked clip , choose nest. able add effect.   let me know if correct way multiple effects.   i working captivate 5.5. have simulation video has 250 slides. have set pre load option 100%. project has menu system allows people navigate multiple stages of timeline. if select menu jumps towards end of lime line within first ~20 sec of project loading blank screen , pause attached button on slide not work. after time simulation images show user has missed part of simulation. did come across potential fix required replacing of cpswfgenerator.dll & stopondemandloading.ini adobe url no longer accurate. i think may confusing 2 different things here.    in cp5, preloading 100% of file not mean instant response when jump slide 1 lot later in project.  because when project loaded up, cp5 needs 'render' of slides in between jump slide , target slide before load target slide.  can delay ranging anywhere split second up, depending on size of project.  if want test this, try timing difference in delay when jumping slide 10 slides down timeline 50, 100, 200...

i'm trying work out optimal workflow doing hdr (using hdr efex 2) on set of images.    i can apply lr's lens correction (nikon, 17-55mm f2,8) , chromatic aberation removal on whole set set (using lr sync) before export hdr - turn off chromatic aberation fix in hdr - , gives me 1 workflow.   however, makes lot of changes tif's before go in - wondering if better export raw files converted tif using minimal changes from lr e,g, no ca fix or lens profile correction; let hdr thing , make profile corrections, upright, etc upon return hdr.  however, when hdr , go develop returned file , go lens correction, cannot chose 17-55mm f2.8 lens drop downs.  there 4 or 5 lenses showing nikon possibilities-and 17-55 not among them.   how come don't still see full list of nikon profiles - shoudln't able apply profile tif (even incorrect one) ?   i tried pasting develop settings virtual copy had set lens profile 17-55 f2.8 - turns on lens profile 'filter' , not force-on ...

i have not enough space upgrade 12.04 have 3 partitions on same hdd: part 1 (mount /) - small part 2 (mount /home) - big part 3 (swap) copy part 1 content part 2 , tell ubuntu must mount partition 2. note cannot resize these partitions (they xfs). how can this? you can use simple copy command or move entire distro or part of distro. looks this; code: sudo cp -ax /home/taak/. /media/folder/home/. sudo cp -ax /. /media/folder/. of course have update fstab , update grub. i'd recommend try command root folder external drive (formatted xfs) feel it, i.e. first create folder/s in external drive , try using command copy it. once familiar command use move contents of partitions around.
